Directing a scene 

Single camera shooting doesn't follow the order of the scene, but each angle is shot all the way through allowing for enough coverage to obtain the smoothest of transitions.

It also gives the editor the opportunity to change the pacing of the scene and to select the best possible performances.

Watch the following scene of Almost Famous directed by Cameron Crowe. When interviewed about the film and working with Kate Hudson, Crowe said that she was good at emotional transitions within a single shot. In the editing room, because of having ample coverage, they were able to choose to hold the shot on her.
